The Laughlin River Lodge has come a long way since it opened in 2014.  Still more development is on going and planned for the future. 

The Laughlin Riverwalk ends at the end of the property of the Laughlin River Lodge.  If you go out the lower level to the Riverwalk there is a nice stretch right along the river until you reach the very end.

There was a No Trespassing sign there at one time but it appeared to be missing the other day.

The portion of land between the Laughlin River Lodge and Harrah's Laughlin is undeveloped private property.

The Laughlin River Lodge recently removed the old Monkey statues, cleaned up the beach, painted the fencing, and put in new lighting.    The beach remains closed.  Future plans include opening of the beach and a RV park.

We had to cool off somewhere after walking on the Riverwalk.  The Bourbon St. Casino inside Laughlin River Lodge seemed like a good place!

Dinner at Big Horn Café in the Laughlin River Lodge

The Big Horn Café opened in early July at the Laughlin River Lodge, 
replacing a long time favorite spot, the Lodge Steakhouse.

We had previously tried breakfast there and recently met a friend, Mark V., there for dinner.   
As we were browsing the menu, Kathie from our Facebook Laughlin Buzz Community stopped by to say hello and recommended the Hoover Dam Chicken.  This is listed on the menu as one of their specialties. 

The Hoover Dam Chicken turned out to be a very good recommendation and choice. The dish consists of two chicken breasts topped with onions, peppers and cheese over Yukon gold potatoes and vegetables.   

We also tried the Prime Rib, mostly because we always loved the Prime Rib when it was the Lodge Steakhouse and wanted to compare it.

The Prime Rib was good, seasoned well, and a very large portion.  Pictured is the 10oz. cut, ($17), which seemed to be much more than 10oz.  They also have a 12 oz. cut for $19.   Although we enjoyed it there was a difference between this one and the one previously served at the Lodge.  A vegetable medley was OK, but would of much preferred Asparagus as before.  

Dinner rolls are included with the meal.  You can add on a salad or cup of soup for $3. We did not.  Drinks (full bar) are available, as the popular Lounge area is also open.

As always the view from the dining room is very nice.  Especially as the sun is setting. 

Service was fast, helpful and friendly.  Thank you to Paul, who has been there since our very first visit back when it was still owned by the River Palms. He always does a wonderful job.

The prices are good, portions are large and the Big Horn Café is open 24 hours.

Southern Nevada Fishing Report - August 23, 2017

Laughlin
Striped bass in the 1- to 3-pound class are schooling along Casino Row. A silver-colored Glide Swimmer or other swimbait thrown into a school of stripers can produce some good action. Anchovies fished off the bottom have been the top bait choice for stripers, but sometimes catfish will take them as well. Black bass are holding in the marshy areas below the casinos and hitting on spinnerbaits.

Lake Mohave
Anglers are catching striped bass and catfish throughout the lake from boats as well as from the shoreline. Swimbaits in trout patterns are fooling striped bass in the Willow Beach area. At the south end of the lake anglers are doing better using anchovies fished off the bottom from a boat. Black bass activity is beginning to pick up in the Cottonwood Cove area. 

Lake Mead
Las Vegas Bay continues to produce an ample supply of threadfin shad. Anglers using live shad have found success for striped bass and catfish while fishing in the bay from the shoreline or from a boat. Frozen anchovies are productive as well. Steep drop offs in this area tend to attract bigger fish, though the standard catch is somewhere in the 1- to 3-pound range. Black bass are taking soft plastics on the Arizona side near Kingman Wash.

Laughlin
Downriver ofBig Bend anglers are having luck finding channel catfish in the coves. Black bass like a variety of spinner baits fished at the edge of coves near the bend. The striper bite has been good for anglers using lures or anchovies. Rusty at the Riviera Marina has heard talk that a few trout have been spotted hanging out in the shadows of docks along Casino Row. 

Lake Mohave
Anglers are pursuing striped bass near Willow Beach on the north and Katherine Landing on the south. Stripers are holding in deep water and taking anchovies along the dam. Some of the smaller fish are schooling and will hit on a trout imitation swimbait. Black bass are hitting on silver variations of the Whopper Plopper near Cottonwood Cove. Catfish are biting on worms and chicken livers in Cottonwood Basin. The Willow Beach National Fish Hatchery plants trout at Willow Beach every Friday.

Lake Mead

Catfish and striper action is good.Striped bass in the 1- to 3-pound range are schooling in Las Vegas Bay. Anglers are catching catfish on anchovies and worms outside of Hemenway Harbor. A group of young fishers had a great evening catching black bass and stripers on a recent excursion to the Boulder Islands. Black bass are active on the east side of Boulder Basin and by the dam. The fish are hitting on imitation worms in white and chartreuse.

Anjelah Johnson-Reyes became an internet sensation with her viral video, “Nail Salon.” That same year she joined the cast of, “MADtv” as a series regular, which spawned another internet sensation, “Bon Qui Qui.” This original character, a disgruntled fast food employee with no filter, has been enjoyed, viewed and replicated by over 65 million people worldwide. Anjelah appeared in multiple ads and commercials including campaigns for Sprint, Visa, Snickers, Verizon, All-State, K-Swiss, Dryers Ice Cream and Taco Cabana. Anjelah has also guest starred on "The Shield," "Ugly Betty" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm," all while touring as a stand up comedian.
