Laughlin Total Visitors and Gaming Revenue for 2021

Summary:   Laughlin Visitor numbers are still far below what was seen prior to the pandemic.  Room rates are up and dining/restaurant prices are higher.  In spite of the decline in visitor numbers, gaming revenue has rebounded better and is within 5% of what was seen in 2019.  

Details: 

The Total number of visitors to Laughlin rebounded by 17.8% in 2021 when compared to 2020.  In part this is because the pandemic caused closures for several months in 2020.  

When comparing the total visitors in 2021 to the total visitors in 2019 (when there was no pandemic) visitor numbers are down -33.7%.  

 

Visitors in 2021:  1,213,100

Visitors in 2020:  1,029,900

Visitors in 2019:  1,829,700 

 

Gaming Revenue 

2021:    $486,059,000 

2020:   $366,677,000

2019:   $512,235,000

This is a 32.6% increase comparing 2021 vs. 2020 (when there were closures) but a -5.1% decrease comparing 2021 vs. 2019 (no closures).    

Room Rates are up significantly

Average Daily Room Rate (ADR) 

2021 was $68.40 

2020 was $52.94 

2019 was $48.58

This is a 29.2% increase comparing 2021 vs 2020  and a 40.8% increase comparing 2021 vs 2019.      

Visitor counts at the airport are still far behind 2020 and 2019 numbers. 

Fewer passengers flew into the Laughlin/Bullhead airport (down -16.3%) comparing 2021 vs. 2020 and down -59.7% comparing 2021 vs 2019.

Laughlin Casino Gaming Revenue up for December 2021

 Laughlin, NV

Laughlin Casino gaming revenue, as reported by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, was up 12.76% for the month of  December 2021 compared to December of 2020.   

Laughlin gaming win in December 2021:  $29,932,353  

Laughlin gaming win in December 2020:  $26,545,801  

While the 12.76% increase for Laughlin is a positive, it looks poor in comparison to the big increases in other areas of Clark County, Nevada.   

Statewide             +68.23% 

Clark County        +79.28% 

 LV Strip      +122.86%  

 Downtown                +62.21%  

 North Las Vegas      +26.36%  

 Laughlin                +12.76%

Laughlin Visitor Statistics - as of November 2021

The LVCVA released the latest statistics on visitor numbers.   With only December left to report here is a summary thus far for 2021. 

Laughlin Visitor Volume 

Nov. 2021: 93,800  

Nov. 2020: 81,200 

Nov. 2019: 139,900

Visitor volume is up 15.5% in November 2021 compared to November 2020 but is down ‐33.0% compared to November of 2019 (the last year when there was no impact by the pandemic).

Year to Date (January-November)

2021:  1,136,300 

2020:  970,600 

2019:  1,713,300 

Year to date visitor number are up 17.1% when comparing 2021 to 2020 but down ‐33.7% when comparing 2021 to 2019.

Average Daily Room rates are up significantly.  They are 30.9% higher in 2021 vs. 2020 and 42.1% higher in 2021 vs. 2019.

Laughlin/Bullhead City Airport Passengers are down significantly as well.

The important statistic, Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) is up 30.9% comparing 2021 vs. 2020 and up 9.3% comparing 2021 vs. 2019.

In spite of declining visitor numbers, Gaming revenue (January-November) is up 34.1% when comparing 2021 vs. 2020 but down less than expected by ‐4.8% when comparing 2021 vs. 2019.
