Casa Serrano - Best Mexican Food Winner gets Not So Good Inspection

Laughlin, Nevada

Casa Serrano
Riverside Resort Casino
Restaurant Inspection

Update - January 28, 2014
After this article was published, Casa Serrano had a reinspection on
January 27th and received an "A" Grade.   Owner, Anthony Serrano shared
the following comment and picture of the new certificate from the Southern
Nevada Health District.  The responsiveness and dedication to the community
from them is wonderful to see.

It has been awhile since any Laughlin restaurants did poorly in a restaurant/health inspection.

Recently, the Casa Serrano received a "B" rating with 20 demerits.
The Lounge at Casa Serrano, however, received an "A" rating with 8 demerits.

*This inspection occurred on January 12, 2016.   Update: See comments from the owner, which were shared on our FB page after this was posted.  They are included at the end of this article.

A look at the violations show the following:

Previous inspections show a mix of A, B, and C grades.  Prior to this inspection they had received a B with 16 demerits on April 2, 2015 and a follow up A grade with 8 demerits on April 16, 2015.

All restaurants are required to clearly post their latest certificate and grade in a spot clearly view-able by the public.  Usually by the hostess stand or entrance.

Casa Serrano is a popular spot for Mexican Food in Laughlin.  Personally, after a few less than satisfying visits, we have not been in there for a few years.

Casa Serrano did win the Best Mexican Food category in the 2015 Best of Laughlin contest.

Anthony Serrano responded to this on our Laughlin Buzz Facebook Page.

We will be updating this after Casa Serrano has it's re-inspection.

About the inspection process:
An "A" grade is the top grade an establishment can receive.  Generally if any grade less than an
A is received the restaurant can and does have a re-inspection shortly thereafter after correcting
any violations.  Keep in mind there is a lag time between when the inspections are performed and
when they appear on the Southern Nevada Health District Website.  A restaurant may have been
inspected or re-inspected (in the case of a low grade) since the data was posted.  When a re-inspection is done the list of violations/demerits from the prior low grade is no longer viewable.
