A Visit to the Best of Laughlin winning Restaurant - Saltgrass Steakhouse

Laughlin, Nevada

The Saltgrass Steakhouse at the Golden Nugget Laughlin won two categories in the 2017 Best of Laughlin awards:

The Best Restaurant Award and Best Steakhouse

This was their 3rd consecutive Best Steakhouse Award and 2nd time winning the overall Best Restaurant in Laughlin.

Best of Laughlin 2017 Award Winners

Last week we dined at the Saltgrass for the first time since the awards came out.

Maudeen’s Filet Oscar

The menu reads:
Center-Cut Filet Mignon topped with jumbo lump crabmeat drizzled with lemon butter & lightly fried asparagus spears.  6 oz 36.99

We had this in past visits but it was definitely different this time.  The steak was cooked perfectly (medium) and was a nice cut.  The topping had a definite bite to it, almost like a cajun seasoning of some sort.  Definitely not just lemon butter.  This did not ruin the steak and crab but it was not as good as in the past. The asparagus did not work very well either. The stalks were very thick and being lightly breaded and fried they were not tender enough. Regular asparagus would of been much better.    In retrospect we should of stuck with a regular filet, steak, or the prime rib.

BBQ Baby Back Ribs & Shrimp
From the menu:
1⁄2 portion of “fall-off-the-bone” ribs & your choice of fried, grilled or BBQ shrimp enbrochette
$24.49

Because the ribs had been highly recommended we gave them a try.  They were very good and were fall off the bone tender.  The BBQ sauce was good and not put on too heavy.  We expected for $24.99 the 1/2 portion would be a bit larger.  There is only one other place in Laughlin we recommend for Ribs and Saltgrass comes close in taste.

Entrees come with beer bread and a dinner salad.  If you order Blue Cheese or any other dressing that wouldn't go with the cheddar cheese topping, ask them to hold it.

In spite of the dining room being very busy, service was fast and friendly.

If you are going for a semi-quiet dining experience the Saltgrass might not be the place to be at peak dining times.  The volume can be very loud.

The decor of the Saltgrass Steakhous is unique.  The view of the Riverwalk and Colorado River, if you are seated close enough to the windows, is wonderful.

If you are a frequent diner at the Saltgrass or any of the other Landry's restaurants at the Golden Nugget Laughlin or elsewhere in the country look into the Landry's Select Club.  For a one time membership fee you get multiple benefits.

The Saltgrass Steakhouse also won Best of Laughlin awards in:

2016:  Best Steakhouse and Best Special Occasion Dining
2015   Best Restaurant, Best Steakhouse, Best Special Occasion Dining

The Golden Nugget Laughlin also has a nice idea implemented on their Casino floor. Donate your slot tickets (you know the ones you find you can't play because the amount is less than the denomination bet on a machine) and they go to a different charity each quarter.
