The following is a press release from the Edgewater - Colorado Belle Media.  Pints Restaurant and Brewery in the Colorado Belle just won two gold medals at the Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition held June 7-8.

 PINTS’ BEERS WIN TWO GOLD MEDALS!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LAUGHLIN, NV-- Colorado Belle’s Pints Brewery & Sports Bar has been awarded two Gold Medals. Chili IPA and “El Jefe” Mexican Lager, won the medals in the prestigious Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition held June 7-8. Chili IPA won in the Field Beer category, and Mexican Lager took home top honors in the American Style Amber Lager category. Eighty-four categories with 30 to 225 entries per category were judged at the event. Brewmaster Chuck Croix entered 5 beers in the competition, including Chili IPA, Mexican Lager, Watermelon Wheat, Bodacious Blueberry and German Bock, all extremely popular at Pints. “We were very excited to receive word about the medals. We work hard to brew excellent beer, and it’s great to have an international competition recognize the results,” Croix said. In 2013, Pints’ Bodacious Blueberry Beer was awarded the Bronze medal in the fruit beer category at the same competition. In addition to keeping tanks and kegs filled with the regular beers, Chuck introduces new seasonal beers. Watch for Mango IPA, coming soon!

Pints microbrews are served at bars throughout Colorado Belle and Edgewater (Colorado Belle’s sister resort) including The Loading Dock Bar & Grille, which features El Jefe Mexican Lager, “Nonetheweizer” American Hefeweizen, Golden Ale and What the Puck IPA. The brewery’s Golden Ale is also served at most major concerts in the Edgewater’s E Center.

Chili IPA is becoming a regular offering at Pints, and El Jefe Mexican Lager is one of four house beers in the Loading Dock Bar & Grille at Colorado Belle.
CHILI IPA: Copper-colored medium body beer with a blend of roasted chilies and a generous quantity of hops in the kettle and in the fermentation tank. Slight note of honey from our malt. The hops dominates the flavor with notes of citrus in this American IPA. 6% ABV
EL JEFE MEXICAN LAGER: A dark malty flavored Vienna style lager. There are hints of roast coffee and chocolate. 8% ABV

CURRENTLY ON TAP AT PINTS:
Pints Premium Golden Ale—A well balanced, light, refreshing ale that finishes dry and crisp.
Rehab Red—An American amber ale with a generous amount of hops that balances the sweetness of lots of caramel malt.
What the Puck IPA—Copper-colored medium body beer with a generous amount of hops in the kettle and in the fermentation tank. Slight note of honey from our malt. The hops dominates the flavor with notes of citrus in this American IPA. 6% ABV
Jackass Stout—Hints of coffee and chocolate lend character to Jackass Stout; served on nitrogen for an extra smooth body.
Bodacious Blueberry Ale—Bodaciously delicious, this ale is made with real fruit for a refreshing, noticeable flavor that isn’t overpowering.
Wild Card Brew—In addition to the five primary beers brewed in Pints, one or more Wild Card Brews are featured in Pints: Nut Brown Ale, (ABV 5%), Double IPA (ABV 10.5%) and American Hefeweizen (ABV 5.5%).

Root Beer is on tap! The Brewmaster’s Root Beer has been pronounced “delicious, better than A&W’s”. Available only in Pints.

Best Breakfast Buffet on the River in Laughlin

One morning we decided to head out for Breakfast in Laughlin. Wanting to try something new our choice was either Bumbleberry Flats (at the Pioneer) or the Loading Dock Bar and Grille at the Colorado Belle. Since we had comps we decided to use them and headed to the Loading Dock.  There is nothing like a free breakfast on the River, and besides we had heard a few not too flattering opinions of the food and service and wanted to see for ourselves.

Upon going up to the hostess stand we were greeted right away. This was a great first sign. We were asked if we were going to have the Buffet.  Apparently the morning breakfast buffet is popular.  We generally don't go for Buffets so asked to see a regular menu.

As we walked in we noticed most of people there wee in the first two rows of tables closest to the buffet. The regular breakfast menu was laminated onto a wooden board, a unique menu format.  After looking it over we realized the price for the Buffet ($7.99 includes coffee or a drink) was a great deal.

I did a walk by of the buffet and saw it looked really good (for a buffet).  Smaller bins of food that looked fresh and of higher quality than we recall at the old Captains Buffet or Edgewater Buffet.  There was also a egg/omelet station and toasting station.  There was fresh fruit, pastries, muffins, cereal plus eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, a egg quiche, pancakes, waffles and more.

So, we all decided to go with the Buffet and it was a good choice. Being that the layout and size was smaller than typical bigger style buffets, choices were hotter and fresher, with them replenishing them more often.  Sometimes, less is more. Do a few things very well is far better than many things done with mediocrity.

For just $7.99 this is probably one of the best breakfast values on the River now.  People who used to love the old $7.99 buffet at the Pioneer Casino Boarding House restaurant before it closed should love this one.  It is much better. The service was wonderful, prompt and friendly.  They had one person refilling coffee and even though we had the buffet our server kept checking on us to see how we were doing.  The decor is a nice concept and even if you sit inside instead of on the patio, you can see out to the Riverwalk.   The tables and tableware were nice and we actually enjoyed everything about the Loading Dock.

Our contributor Todd recently shared a good experience he and his wife had at lunch at the Loading Dock. Sometime in the near future we need to revisit to see how dinner during a busy time goes.   The restaurant seems to be more geared to the regular menu than the buffet for dinner but for breakfast we highly recommend the buffet.  For now it is the best value and breakfast buffet on the River in Laughlin.

You, of course, can order off the regular menu and we did see people doing this. The food that went by looked good and were large portions.    More pictures below:

Loading Dock Bar and Grille is Open

The Loading Dock Bar and Grille in the Colorado Belle opened quietly today.  This was a soft opening.   We are sure a grand opening will be announced soon.  Even though the final touches on the Riverwalk are not quite complete, the restaurant was open and serving.

We didn't have time to stop in but we did manage to grab a few quick pictures.   

The layout looks very nice, with plenty of space and even outdoor seating right on the Riverwalk.

It looks like there will be an outdoor bar.  They already have the pre-mixed drinks in the machines.  Perhaps this will be similar to the old Chill Bar.    Again, there seems to still be a bit of work to go before this is up and running. 

We aren't sure what this is going to be (below) but they have been working on it right at the point of the Riverwalk directly across from the rest of the Loading Dock. 

You can get into the Loading Dock from the Parking Lot side of the Casino, by using a door right here.  It comes into the Casino right by the restaurant. 

There is some new carpet.

The menu is fairly extensive with many different choices.  Prices are about in line with similar restaurants of this quality, but may be a bit high for Laughlin.  This remains to be seen. 

Surprisingly, they also have a Buffet in the Loading Dock.   Breakfast Buffet runs from 7am-11am and is $7.99.  This does include coffee but not other beverages, which will be extra. 

They also have a Dinner Buffet that starts at 4pm.  $13.99 Sunday-Thursday and $17.99 Friday and Saturday.   They feature a carved prime rib on Wednesday and Chicken and Ribs on Thursday (sort of like the old Mark Twain's that was upstairs at the Colorado Belle?). 

With the new Buffet in the Loading Dock opening, the Captain's Buffet upstairs is now closed.

Loading Dock Update - getting closer

Laughlin, Nevada

We were at the Colorado Belle today and stepped out to the RiverWalk to enjoy some of the beautiful weather.  Even though it was cloudy and a bit of a breeze it was nice.

Progress continues on the construction of the Loading Dock Bar and Grille. Just a week or so ago they put the Lighthouse beacon in place (see pictures here).  The Loading Dock is set to open sometime in March.  Below are a couple of the latest pics we snapped.   Click on each picture for a larger view.

Lighthouse in Place at Loading Dock

Just the other day they placed the Lighthouse portion of the new Loading Dock Bar and Grille at the Colorado Belle Hotel and Casino in Laughlin.

 

Construction continues. 

Management apparently has pushed the opening date to March rather than February as previously announced.   Progress is continuing steadily.  Most recent pictures are below:

Hot Deal: Wings and Microbrew at Pints

Last Sunday we made an usual stop at Pint's Microbrewery and Restaurant in the Colorado Belle during Sunday football. We had seen the signs indicating they have Sunday and Monday game night specials on chicken wings and beer.  It turns out that this is one of the best deals in Laughlin (if you love wings and beer and football).  We were surprised that the place was only half full, but the crowd was loud and into the games being shown on a big screen and other smaller TV's throughout the large bar/restaurant.  We were less surprised that service was still as slow and unsteady as it normally is.  The beer and wings as usual made up for this.  

German Bock Microbrew

 A pint of any of the microbrews on tap are just $2.50 during the game happy hour.  We were pleased to see that for a change they had many different ones available and all of them listed actually were available. With four of us we managed to try just about all of them.   The German Bock was a favorite, strong but so good. The Golden Ale was at the other end of the spectrum of strength but had a delicious smooth taste.  The Blueberry Ale is an award winner you should definitely try as well.

The wings are available during the happy hour for 75 cents a piece.  This isn't as good a price as you can get on Tuesday at Buffalo Wild Wings over in Bullhead City (50 cent a wing).  They were just as good, cooked nice and crispy, with a perfect amount of heat infused in them.  Wings must be ordered in orders of 6 at Pints.  It wouldn't be us without noting one of our pet peeves.  For an order of 12 wings they gave ONE Celery stick and ONE carrot stick.  ONE. We know the price of produce has gone up but still!  The order included the obligatory running, nearly flavorless ranch dipping sauce.  We would love to see some good chunky blue cheese and a couple extra veggie sticks!

We also ordered the Tater Skins ($8.99, no happy hour special).  These are usually very good.  

Today, however, they seem to have downsized the order.  $8.99 for 5 small halves. Even three potato's halved would be six. And one of them was tiny (perhaps a micro-potato?) This used to be one of our favorite apps to go with some beer, but $8.99 for what was given was too much.

Service was ok once we were seated.  As usual, even though they were not overly busy, we had to wait at an unmanned hostess counter for way too long (while other employees chatted at the other checkout, completely ignoring us). The server did seem less than friendly, but given how bad service we have had here before we had no new complaints.  

The beer was cold, the wings were hot, and the price was right. They do appear to have new tables and chairs.  Gone are the old copper tables (which were bigger).

*The sign didn't indicate what time the specials start, it just says Sunday and Monday night during the football games.  We were there fairly early and they were already on.
