Puppets in Laughlin

Update:  If you enjoyed (or missed) Terry Fator in Laughlin last July, he is returning again in 2015. One show only on January 24th.  See Details Here.

Laughlin, NV

Two high profile entertainers who use puppets and ventriloquism in their acts are coming to Laughlin this summer.  Jeff Dunham will be at Harrah's Laughlin and Terry Fator will be at the Edgewater E-Center.

Jeff Dunham returns to the outdoor, Rio Vista Amphitheater on Saturday, June 14, 2014.

Jeff Dunham has been a regular performer in Laughlin for years, even before he became more well known and one of the top comedy, ventriloquists in the world.  We caught his show last year June at Harrah's in the outdoor venue. Read our review of the show and the seating at the Amhitheater.  If you go be prepared for a warm night, it was last year. Even Walter (the puppet) was incensed over how hot it was and wondered why he couldn't go over into the hotel where they had air conditioning!  Jeff Dunham put on a very good show with many improvised portions tailored to "Laughlin".

Vegas Chatter has reported that Jeff Dunham will be getting his own run/show at Planet Hollywood in Vegas so this is a great chance to catch him in a nice, smaller, albeit hot, venue.

As of today, June 1st, there do not appear to be many tickets left on the Ticketmaster site, however, check with your favorite casino they may have tickets or packages available.

Terry Fator has been a regular performer at the Mirage in Vegas, and is coming to Laughlin for one show only on Friday, July 25, 2014 @ 8pm

Terry Fator is backed by a live band, and entertains audiences with singing, his puppets, comedy and celebrity impressions. The “America‘s Got Talent“ winner brings to life a hilarious range of characters including Winston, the impersonating turtle, Emma Taylor, the little girl with the big voice and lounge singer Monty Carlo. With comedic banter and amazing vocal impressions of musical superstars such as Garth Brooks, Dean Martin, Aretha Franklin, Lady Gaga and more.

For Terry Fator tickets visit The E-Center Website Here  or check with the Edgewater or Colorado Belle.
Tickets are $30-85   As of today, June 1st there are plenty of very good seats left.

Guy Fieri Restaurant at Harrah's Laughlin by Year End

Laughlin, Nevada

** New Updates are posted at the end of this article

Earlier in the month we shared news that Guy Fieri and Caesars Entertainment planned to create several new restaurants including one in Laughlin.   Today, in a press release, it said plans are to open 3 new restaurants by the end of the year (2014) at:

Bally's Atlantic City, Horseshoe Baltimore and Harrah's Laughlin.

 Press Release:

LAS VEGAS, May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Caesars Entertainment today announced the company is expanding its relationship with chef, restaurateur, New York Times best-selling author and Emmy award-winning television host, Guy Fieri. On the heels of the opening of Guy Fieri's Vegas Kitchen & Bar at The Quad Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Fieri is now set to launch three new concepts with the gaming-hospitality company in Atlantic City, Baltimore and Laughlin, Nevada.
"Guy's restaurants and menus are innovative, fun and his guests enjoy exceptional service combined with an entertaining experience. His style of hospitality could not be a better fit for the desires of our guests," said Tom Jenkin, Caesars Entertainment Global President of Destination Markets. "Guy's restaurant with us in Las Vegas has received rave reviews and we're thrilled to extend our partnership with him so that our guests across the country can enjoy his cuisine."
The three new restaurants, all slated to open later this year, will be located at Bally's Atlantic City, Horseshoe Baltimore and Harrah's Laughlin. Each concept will be unique and the menu adapted to highlight a regional focus. Fieri's Bally's Atlantic City location will offer a new unique twist on the classic steakhouse while Horseshoe Baltimore and Harrah's Laughlin will feature some of Guy's most popular dishes along with regional favorites.
"It is an honor to play with a championship team," said Fieri. "Getting the opportunity to open one restaurant with Caesars was great, but opening three more, in the same year, is amazing!"

Breakfast Burrito and Eggs Benedict

Review of breakfast at Beach Cafe, Harrah's Laughlin
Date of visit:  Nov. 2013

We have always enjoyed the Eggs Benedict at the Beach Cafe located in Harrah's Laughlin.   See a review here.    One morning, recently, we dropped by Harrah's and made an unplanned visit to the Cafe for breakfast.  For some reason we strayed from our "usual" 1/2 Benedict and California Style *choices.  We must of felt over hungry as we ordered the Full Benedict and the signature, "Specialty" Breakfast Burrito.

Breakfast Burrito with Hash browns. Topped with Avocado

Burrito cut in half

Eggs Benedict - Full Size with Hash browns
We were not disappointed with the Burrito.  This is a 10 inch flour tortilla filled with scrambled eggs, chorizo, refried beans and Monterey Jack cheese.  Topped with ranchero sauce, avocado slices and more Monterey Jack cheese.   As you may be aware, chorizo has a bite to it, this one was spicy but very flavorful.  The burrito was huge, almost too much for one person.   Plus hash browns on the side (a good size portion too). Price is 9.99 with a Total Rewards Card, 10.99 without.

As usual the eggs benedict were very good. They have a very good hollandaise sauce, the eggs are cooked just right, the ham is thick yet lean and juicy.  Side of hash browns included, for 9.99 with a Total Rewards Card, 10.99 without.   The half benedict morning special available until 10am is just right, this one is for a hearty appetite.

The Beach Cafe is open 24 hours and serves breakfast 24 hours.    They have something for everyone at fairly good prices with large portions.  Easily enough to share at times.   See this link for a pdf file of the menu.

Our favorites for breakfast (available as a special from 6am-10am) are:

Half Benedict                                       6.95 with TR Card
Half a grilled English muffin topped
with thick sliced ham, a poached egg and
Hollandaise sauce

California Style                                     6.95 with TR Card
One poached egg served on top of sliced
turkey and a grilled half bagel, topped with
Hollandaise sauce and avocado served with
hash browns

Have you tried the Beach Cafe?

Fresh Market Buffet at Harrah's Laughlin

We were attending the Jeff Dunham show at Harrah's Laughlin and decided to eat dinner first.

Baja Blue had a big line and the only other choices there are Fast Food or the very pricey steakhouse.  So onto the Fresh Market Square Buffet it was.  We didn't realize it was Steak Night so got sticker shocked at the cashier.  One doesn't expect to pay upwards of $80 with a couple of drinks for a Buffet (3 people) in Laughlin.   Despite the price of the buffet the lines were still pretty deep.  With a Total Rewards players card of Platinum or higher you can skip fast through the VIP lines.  We definitely wouldn't of waited a half hour or more for this buffet.

Got seated and our drinks came promptly.  No silverware on the table.  You must go to the silverware section to get it yourself.  Since we still tip at a buffet, shouldn't they at least put the silverware down for you?   Every other buffet we have been to does so.

The buffet does have a very good selection, from Italian, Shrimp, Chinese, Carving Board Meats.  Something for everyone.   Everything was fresh, hot, replaced promptly and kept clean.

The steak was called a N.Y. Strip steak.  The chef was grilling them right behind the area on the Buffet where they were served.  He grilled them medium rare, medium, and well done and there was a platter for each choice.    One steak a member of our party took from the medium platter was very well done.  He returned that one and got another one that was just right.  The trick is to time it just right and wait for the chef to put your steak choice on the platter from the grill.  Do this and you will get it hot and juicy.  The steaks are cut ultra thin.  Perhaps 1/4 inch at most.  Never have seen a NY strip cut so thin.  Reminded us of what you would get in a steak sandwich.

Highlights:
The Prime Rib was very good, much better than any other we have had at Laughlin Buffets.
The Shrimp (peel and eat) and breaded, fried were good.
Salad bar selections were good.
Desserts were very good.  You can choose from some selections placed out on plates, or you can go up to the glass counter and select what you want.  Many choices.  Plus they had soft serve ice cream and 4 choices of flavors or regular hand scooped ice cream.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries.

Low points:
The ribs were fatty and not very good.
The pasta for the most part was overcooked (typical for a buffet)
Breads on the buffet were not that fresh.
Pizza could of passed for frozen variety.
They took out the little self server coffee/expresso/latte machine they used to have there.  We used to love that but it is gone and we couldn't even located our waitress at dessert time to get a regular coffee.

The bottom line is a buffet no matter what the special of the night might be...is still a buffet.  Go to a buffet and expect buffet quality and food.  Yes, some of this one was good.  Definitely not worth 20+ dollars a person (our opinion) though.  It is all a matter of preference and how much you love buffet food.  If you love them, this would be one of the best buffet choices in Laughlin.

Unless we are in a pinch to find somewhere to eat we probably won't return to this Buffet again.

Light Breakfast at the Beach Cafe at Harrahs Laughlin

Restaurant visited and reviewed:   Last week of September 2012

The Beach Cafe is a popular breakfast spot in Harrahs Casino in Laughlin.   It is right inside the front casino door, next to Baja Blue, and steps from the slot machines.  We dropped in to have a light breakfast.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming, going out of their way in fact to give the impression of great service.   The Total Rewards card (free even if you don't play) gives you a discount on items on the menu.  The regular prices are listed, with the Total Rewards price next to it.  Generally it is about a dollar off each item.

They have half size breakfasts, we opted for the 1/2 Eggs Benedict and the California Style

1/2 Eggs Benedict

California Style

The Eggs Benedict is nicely done, a good Hollandaise sauce.  A full portion is very hearty, we have seen many people split one order.  The 1/2 size is the perfect size and comes with hash browns.
The California Style is a twist on the Eggs Benedict, substituting turkey for the ham, and comes on a 1/2 bagel instead of an English Muffin.  Hash Browns and Fresh Avocado included.  In our order there were substantially more hash browns with the California Style than with the Eggs Benedict (too much in fact).  The turkey is a good cut and something different, very good served like this.  The Avocado adds a creaminess to the overall taste.
Both items were just $6.95 with the Total Rewards Card.  With two fairly tasteless, generic coffees for $4.78 and our bill came to $20.19 with tax.   A decent value for a good, light breakfast.
Plus as always they get bonus points because there was hot sauce on the table.
No green, but two kinds of red.

On the way in we noticed many people having Pancakes and the Breakfast Burrito (which we heard is very good).  Perhaps another time.

You can't go wrong with breakfast at the Beach Cafe at Harrahs.

They accept the Total Reward card (comps/points) for payment and you get points added to your card for dining here.  Just show them your card when you check out.
