Southern Nevada Fishing Report - May 18, 2017
Laughlin
Anglers have lots of options below Davis Dam. Striped bass are taking anchovies up and down the river. Trout are still biting in the casino area. Anglers are having most success from boats in the cooler waters using night crawlers. Near Big Bend anglers are catching black bass, catfish, and stripers. Anchovies, top-water lures and spinner baits are productive bait options.
Lake Mohave
Black Bass have provided exciting fishing in the coves outside of Cottonwood Cove. Patient anglers fishing near drop offs and underwater vegetation have brought in some good largemouth bass. There have been few reports out of Willow Beach, but those indicate that striped bass fishing is good. The fish are biting swimbaits and anchovies.
Lake Mead
Windy weather conditions have kept many anglers off the water. Those who have spent time fishing have been rewarded with good striper action. Several 20-inch stripers have been reeled in with crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps. The best fishing has been found from sunset into the nighttime hours. Spinner baits have been taking black bass in the afternoons.

Laughlin
Catfish are active and being caught in the marshes below Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area. Anglers are using anchovies and chicken livers. Striped Bass out in deeper waters are biting on anchovies and swimbaits. Trout are still catchable, but you won’t find them in big schools. Look in eddies and along the seams between fast water and slow. The limit is now 5 trout on the river.
Lake Mohave
Striped bass are keeping fishermen busy. The best fishing is taking place in the early morning hours and around sunset. Black bass are taking soft plastics fished on a drop shot, crankbaits and some top-water baits. Look for the fish in coves with vegetation and other structure, along the edge of deep water and near drop-offs. Stocked rainbows at Willow Beach will generally take Rooster Tails, Panther Martins and other spinners. Hardware users might also consider Li’l Jakes or Super Dupers. PowerBait fished on a Carolina rig also will catch the fish. Trout imitations and other swimbaits will take striped bass.
Lake Mead
All warm water species are very active. The big news this spring is crappie. After several years on the slow end, the slab-sized sunfish has provided anglers with good action in the Overton Arm. Small jigs in white or silver colorations, and small crankbaits will catch the fish. Striped bass are pursuing shad near 33-Hole and along the east side of Boulder Basin. Government Wash has provided shoreline anglers with good fishing for stripers, some in the 5-pound class. Bass are still spawning, so catch-and-release fishing is encouraged.
