We have only attended one show at the outdoor Amphitheater. This was George Lopez awhile back. Even though it was May it was a hot night as the Amphitheater is actually set up on top of the parking garage just across the street from the Riverside Resort. Seating was chairs on the floor (ground) and bleachers. All the seats had a decent view as it is not that big of a venue, especially for a concert.
The Riverside recently received approval for a special permit from the Clark County’s Planning Commission. This will allow them to continue holding concerts without having to approach the county for a permit on each occasion. They will also not have to break down the lighting system and other temporary structures between events, and will be able to run the concerts until midnight instead of the current 10pm restriction.
This decision was not without opposition. A local Laughlin resident Yoko Allen, who expressed concerns about increased noise and traffic levels. She said one of the reasons she and her husband moved to Laughlin was because of its quiet nature, and the Riverside’s plans could ruin that atmosphere. Their home is located near the Laughlin Jr./Sr. High School so it is actually about 2.5 miles west of the amphitheater and at a 400 foot higher elevation.
In our opinion, there definitely will be no impact of traffic where their home is located. If anything they get far more noise and traffic from the school buses and students rushing in and out 10 months of the year. Having been at the location many times for school events we can readily say you cannot hear any sounds from far down on Casino Drive where the Riverside or other Casino's are. The venue is also located in a commercial tourist area so we applaud the county for providing this new special permit.
