***Be sure to read the information at the end of this article about how the inspection process reporting works.

When re-inspections are posted on the Southern Nevada Health District website we will share them and update this article.   If any of the establishments contact us and want to comment, we will share those as well.     The SNHD website is   southernevadahealthdistrict.org

The SNHD also has an APP where you can check recent inspections.  This is not as robust as the website but is a nice, quick way to check the latest inspection results for an establishment you may planning to dine at.  Remember though, inspection results are not posted in real time.  You can look for the most recent Grade on the certificate posted at the restaurant (as required).

*** About the SNHD inspection process:  An "A" grade is the top grade an establishment can receive.  Generally if any grade less than an A is received the restaurant can and does have a re-inspection shortly thereafter after correcting any violations.  Keep in mind there is a lag time between when the inspections are performed and
when they appear on the Southern Nevada Health District Website.  A restaurant may have been inspected or re-inspected (in the case of a low grade) since the data was posted.  When a re-inspection is done the list of violations/demerits from the prior low grade is no longer view-able.

Claim Jumper at Golden Nugget Laughlin

Laughlin, Nevada

Claim Jumper
Golden Nugget Laughlin
Restaurant Review

We visited Claim Jumper at the Golden Nugget in Laughlin, NV during the annual River Run bike rally.  Even though they were very busy we were seated fairly promptly.   Service was excellent, which was a bit surprising since the place was packed.

Everything ordered by our party was very good.   The Lemon Pepper Zucchini was delicious. It was a very big order, easily shareable by many people, and was lightly battered.   The Chicken Pot Pie is one of the best items on the menu.  The fish and chips, and chicken tenderloins were also very good.

One member of our group ordered the massive WidowMaker burger. This was a large burger topped with smoked bacon, avocado, battered onion rings, avocado, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo and red relish (for 12.99, which includes choice of slaw, fries, or fresh fruit).  They could only eat 1/2 of it.

Both the Fish and Chips and Chicken Pot Pie are also on the Early Bird menu (1-6pm daily).  We were unaware of this. When we ordered our server told us about it and that saved us a few dollars on each dish.    This early bird menu is available to seniors all day and includes several other items to choose from.

Claim Jumper is part of the Landry's group of restaurants.  If you get a Landry's Select Club card some of the benefits include a Birthday credit, accumulation of points toward future purchases, and priority seating.  This is good at all Landry's restaurants, which include the Saltgrass Steakhouse and Bubba Gump's in the Golden Nugget Laughlin.

Comp Points earned on the Golden Nugget 24 Karat Players Club can also be used to pay for purchases at these Golden Nugget restaurants in Laughlin.

See the full Claim Jumper menu for Golden Nugget Laughin here.

This was only our 3rd visit to the Claim Jumper but we enjoyed it.  Good, attentive, friendly service and very good food and nice prices.

Not surprisingly, the Claim Jumper at the Golden Nugget just recently won Best Cafe/Diner in the Laughlin Buzz 2016 Best of Laughlin Awards.

The Claim Jumper hours listed on their website as of this article are:
  • Sunday - Thursday 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
  • Friday & Saturday 6:00 a.m. - Midnight.

Laughlin River Run 2016 - Attendance & Police Reports

Laughlin

The Laughlin River Run completed with no major incidents reported.  Registered attendance was about the same as last year, 35,000.   This does not include people or bikers who joined the rally and did not register with the official promoter (a $25 registration fee, which included entry into various events, etc.).

LVMPD reported the following statistics:

There was a 62% increase in the number of arrests and a 181% increase in the number of traffic citations.

56 arrests, of which there were:
8 were felony violations,
1 gross misdemeanor,
47 misdemeanors.
0 Motorcycle thefts

9 of those arrests were for DUI

551 Traffic Citations

The Bullhead City Police reported:

A 55% increase in arrests which were:

  • 34 arrests
  • 40 traffic citations
  • Of which there were: 3 DUI's, 3 Narcotics Arrests

From our personal experience from visiting the Casino drive over the 4 days, we felt-
  • There were bigger crowds. From our perspective at least, it seemed to be more of a weekend biker or non-biker crowd than a traditional biker crowd.
  • There seemed to be more Vendors, with less parking space in the Casino lots.
  • More children, which we feel shouldn't be permitted in the areas where alcohol is being sold.
  • Overall, in spite of or perhaps due to the higher arrests and citations, it seemed to be an overall safe and well run event.
Is the annual Laughlin River Run becoming more of a higher priced event and less of a traditional Bike Rally?  We aren't sure but that was the feel we came away with.
